A short escape from the city to the lakes and open desert south of Dubai.
Take Al Qudra Road from the E611 and the city disappears quickly behind you. The road is straight and empty, with dunes on both sides.
Park near the lakes to see the birdlife at first light, or wait for sunset when the sand turns orange.
Look out for camels near the road and cyclists on the track alongside it. It makes an easy morning drive before breakfast.
